Riding On Report Autumn 2021

In the last edition of Riding On we announced the winners of the Jo Dearnley Memorial Award and the Good Joint Award 2020.

I wish to draw members attention to an article in this edition from Lockyer Branch regarding their win of the Jo Dearnley Memorial Award.

The winners of the Good Joint Award for 2020 are the Wellington members of the Dubbo and Western Plains Branch.

As has been the practice for the last few years whenever they wish to present me (UCARF coordinator} with a donation cheque we meet up at a pre-arranged location.

The most recent get together was at O’Donoghues Irish Pub in Emu Plains at the foothills of the Blue Mountains.

After a hearty lunch I received a most grateful and very present the guys with their 2020 trophy and display the Good Joint Award Shield.

How these members raise this amount of UCARF funds in the middle of a pandemic is amazing.

The accompanying photograph features Phil Melhuish, Kim Kennerson and John Jannus holding the cheque, the trophy and the shield.

Unfortunately, Peter Ogden who is one of the three main players in fund raising was unable to attend due to other commitments.

The following donations from Ulysses Club branches and members have been received since the last published list in the Summer edition of Riding On 2020.

This list is in no particular order other than when received by the club.

Its very pleasing to note that number of donations have more than doubled in the last quarter with a total value rising from a

A much-needed boost to UCARF from some very supportive and generous branches and members.

Stephen Dearnley OAM.

It was a sad day when the Ulysses Club lost its founding member Stephen Dearnley in February 2012.

It’s also sad when one reads in the last edition of Riding On that Stephen has been labelled an egotist some nine years after his passing.

Disdain is my reaction from being targeted for defending Stephens integrity, I stand by my previous claim that Stephen was not an egotist, but rather a modest man.

Discussione Finito.

Thank you, Stephen, for giving us our club.

This is most likely my second last UCARF report as I am looking at retiring from the position of Coordinator at the next AGM after 11 years at the helm.

I have had my eyes on a more than suitable enthusiastic successor for a while now with an approval of the national committee.

My intent is to introduce this keen member who has a good club background in my next and last report.
