Riding On Report Spring 2020
Regrettably the UCARF national biennial raffle has had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic. It is hoped that we can resurrect the raffle as soon as is practical.
A reminder that the Jo Dearnley Memorial Award and the Good Joint Award were scheduled for presentation at the Ulysses Club AGM September 26. The awards will be now be presented at the 2021 AGM in Mandurah.
UCARF is most recently the recipient of a $10,000.00 bequeath from the will of the late Gideon Schuman who ‘rode on’ in April 2017.
Gideon was a very active member of the club for many years closely associated with the Hills Branch and was well known in branch circles in Sydney and the environs.
Gideon was one of life’s eccentric characters and was very popular and much admired by fellow members, including myself.
His love of the club is evidenced by his $10,000 bequeath in his will to UCARF.
Unfortunately, the 3 year long, protracted and complex legal processes were very difficult and expensive, and I would like to acknowledge two members who were personally and financially burdened by those legal processes in securing the bequeath to UCARF.
As executors to Gideon’s Will, current Hills Branch President, Jon Uidam and former Hills Branch President, John Hickey were the players who brought Gideon’s wish to fruition.
This gift is greatly appreciated and very timely for the club with UCARF taking a big hit with the virus. Gideon would be very pleased.
The following donations from Ulysses Club branches and members have been received since the last published list in the winter edition of Riding On 2020.
This list is in no particular order other than when received by the club.
Melbourne Branch $500.00, Central Highlands Branch $250.00,
Mandurah-Murray Branch $500.00, Ronald Barber $50.00, David Scott $200.00,
Mid North Coast Branch $500.00.
Following the unfortunate cancelation of the Lismore Rally due to the virus a number of members chose to donate their fees to the club rather than receive a refund.
An impressive gesture on their part.
The national committee in turn decided these donations would be forwarded to the UCARF account.
The result is eight individual donations giving the fund a much-needed boost to the total tune of $755.00.
As the UCARF Coordinator I wish to express a heartfelt gratitude to all donors on behalf of the club, especially in these difficult times.
